1973 Ford Bronco
Our team started with a tired, dirty, and very rusty old Bronco. The truck was pulled out of the backyard after sitting for 15 years. We were brought in to reimagine the vehicle as a NEW, highly drivable classic interpretation of a Bronco. An American classic, reimagined with modern performance, comfort, and craftsmanship while retaining its spirit. The customer found us through a friend referral.
This 1973 Ford Bronco underwent an extensive frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration, completed entirely in-house by our skilled craftsmen at Anaheim Rod & Custom. From its meticulously refinished exterior to its hand-built V8 engine, we thoughtfully restored and upgraded every aspect of this iconic Bronco, preserving its timeless character while adding modern refinements. More than anything, the customer wanted something timeless that could be enjoyed for years to come.
Engine & Performance:
At the heart of this restoration is a 302 Windsor V8 small-block engine our team carefully hand-built. The original Ford 289 was no longer usable, so we found a 1971 “Hecho in Mexico” high-nickel iron block to build into a high-performance small-block Ford. We bored the engine 30 over, installed high-compression pistons, and added a full roller valve train, camshaft, and specialty heads. We wanted a high-RPM, high-torque engine that would work well for driving and off-roading.
We installed a Holley Hyperspark ignition and Sniper EFI for reliability and ease of use. Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold was installed for low-end torque.
A new hand-built stainless exhaust system with Borla ProXS mufflers and custom headers delivers a distinctive V8 sound that complements the Bronco's classic, yet bold personality.
The factory C4 Transmission and Transfer case were rebuilt to performance specifications.
Suspension and Frame:
We removed the body from the frame, then disassembled, cleaned, inspected, repaired, and powder-coated the frame. We installed an upgraded front and rear suspension kit, stock but improved, with polyurethane bushings and high-strength tie rod ends and end links. We installed a front and rear lift kit to raise the body 2 inches front and rear. We set up the suspension for the best balanced ride for street and off-road use.
We replaced the factory brakes with upgraded Ford calipers front and rear, plus a Wilwood master cylinder and upgraded booster for better braking performance. New brake lines were fabricated and installed. New fuel lines were fabricated and installed.
Exterior & Bodywork:
The Bronco's exterior received a complete refinish in premium House of Kolor paint, followed by extensive color-sanding and buffing for a deep, beautiful finish.
A new hardtop built in-house, all-new glass, and complete replacement weatherstripping bring renewed refinement to the vehicle.
Custom door and dashboard knobs provide subtle, personalized details, while power-operated side steps offer convenient entry and exit without compromising the Bronco's classic appearance.
Interior & Comfort:
Inside, the Bronco features a completely new interior done in an original style that blends vintage character with modern comfort. We even added some accent lights under the dash for that extra evening cool vibe.
We installed a vintage-style aftermarket AC system for all-season comfort. JL Audio keeps you rocking whether you’re off-road or driving down the coast. The inside of the top and the body tub are coated with Lizard Skin sound control and insulation for a quiet and comfortable ride.
We added a new roll bar to complete the interior upgrades and add to the Bronco's distinctive open-air utility heritage.
Electrical & Final Details:
To support the extensive modernization, our team installed a completely new electrical wiring system and harness, providing a fresh foundation for the vehicle's upgraded components and accessories.

The result is a beautifully restored 1973 Ford Bronco that brings together classic American design, skilled craftsmanship, and thoughtful modern enhancements.
